"...unless you change and become like little children" (Matthew 18:3)

About three weeks ago I had the privilege of spending time with my little niece, who also happens to be my goddaughter. I say privilege because a) they live in another city and b) given our daily hurried lives we merely have time to see each other. My elder sister had planned to go to a conference in Mechelen so she asked me to babysit my little baby girl, as I often call her in my head and during my ramblings to myself. I gladly accepted.

Though spring hadn't officially started, the weather was incredibly nice. We ended up spending a great deal of time at a park nearby, just sitting on the grass watching swans and ducks pass by. Very beautiful scenery I must admit. I had initially planned to go visit a furnishing fair but it turned out it was paying and I had zero money. I don't regret it however, we had an exquisite time at the park. I'm a homebody introvert and my little baby girl is a die hard outdoorsy extrovert...this results in quite interesting interactions.

Before we went out, I made sure to feed her and afterwards she started playing. Her playing is what inspired the title of this post. I'm in the process of furnishing my home little by little, no matter how much I buy I feel like I still don't have enough and that my home is empty. Never mind the fact that I live on 27 square metres (about 300 sq ft) and that really I can't have too many things without my place looking like a tornado passed by, but I digress. My little baby girl sat at my desk that day, as she usually does when she comes to visit me. And this time instead of watching Peppa Pig (her favorite cartoon!) she started pulling out all kinds of things I had on my desk and playing with it. There was the jumbo pencil and the mega colorful paper clips, of which she decided to make a chain and was so proud of showing it off to me. It got me thinking? What if I was like that? Not mumbling and complaining all the time but simply content and creative with what I already own? This made me understand what Jesus said in Matthew 18:3 much much better.
